Our Story
The G.O.A.T
To our family, basketball is more than a sport. Our parents met at a Raptors game and we grew up watching it nonstop. We have played competitively and trained on the side with some incredible basketball trainers who have also influenced our love and knowledge for the sport. And we have of course spent hours on the court simply playing pick-up ball with our friends. We also love our city and what basketball means to it...and we attribute a lot of that to Vince Carter, a true legend in Toronto.
Vince is not short of accolades - one of two Raptors ever to win Rookie of the Year, the 3rd Leading Scorer of all-time, and the most iconic dunker in contest history. But what makes him so remarkable in our eyes is what he has done for the city of Toronto. As one of the best basketball players of all time, he made the sport relevant in Canada, and put the Raptors on the map.
His love of Toronto runs deep. Despite only representing our city for 7 out of his 22 year career, these 7 years meant the world to us and to him. No one will forget the night he returned to Toronto on Nov 19, 2014 as a Grizzly, almost 10 years after leaving us, and seeing the tears run down his face when MLSE presented his tribute video on the video screens before the game and the standing ovation that lasted for minutes after it played. He has been outspoken about his love for the Raptors, and for what it meant to him to be one. And most recently, and perhaps most significantly, he announced that he would be entering the Hall of Fame as none other than a Raptor.
The Raptors are one of only two teams who haven't ever retired a jersey. Although there is debate on who should be first, given his impact on the sport in Toronto, we believe that Vince should get this honour first and get his jersey hung in the rafters.
Alongside some incredible community partners, we're on a mission to make this happen. Sign the petition and help us Retire 15.
